The Association for Individual Development (AID)

AID is a non-profit, community-based organization that serves individuals  with mental health and substance abuse concerns in Southern Kane  County.  A variety of programming is available to meet the specific  needs of the individual, including Crisis Services, Outpatient  treatment, Residential, Groups, Substance Abuse Counseling and Victims  Services.

Aunt Martha’s Healthcare Network

Aunt Martha’s offers a variety of programs and services designed to provide a  full continuum of care for children, teens and families in Illinois. These resources form a spectrum of care that includes: child welfare,  community based, healthcare & Mental Health Services.

Ecker Center for Behavioral Health

The Ecker Center for Behavioral Health provides services to adults with mental illness who live in Kane County and parts of Cook county. Services include psychiatric care, medication and case management, recovery programs, youth prevention and education programs, supportive residences, and psychotherapy. 24/7 crisis intervention is available through the Crisis Stabilization Program at Ecker Center, and the Psychiatric Emergency Program located next to Sherman Hospital Emergency Department. 


Fees for service are based on a sliding scale according to income and family size. Medicaid and Medicare also will reimburse.

Family Counseling Service of Aurora

Family Counseling Service strengthens families through its programs of Behavioral Health, Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring and Consumer Credit Counseling Services. The agency is fully accredited, offers  services in Spanish and accepts most insurances.

Family Service Association of Greater Elgin Area

We  offer a full array of out-patient mental health services for children  and adolescents that reside in School District U-46, Burlington or District #300. The agency is also the Screening Assessment and Support  Service (SASS) provider for Kane and Kendall Counties. This program  screens children and adolescents who are at imminent risk of needing to  be hospitalized for psychiatric reasons that are wards of the Illinois  Department of Children and Family Services, who are Medicaid eligible or who have no health insurance.

Gateway Foundation/Aurora

Provides  outpatient mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.  Provides substance abuse treatment services in outpatient, residential,  and recovery home settings for adult women. Residential substance abuse  services for adolescent females scheduled to open in December 2008.

Greater Elgin Family Care Center

GEFCC  provides quality, affordable and comprehensive behavioral health,  medical and dental care to all residents of the greater Elgin area,  regardless of their ability to pay. Our services include child and  adolescent psychiatry and behavioral health counseling for children,  teens and families. Medicaid/All Kids and Family Care recipients are  always welcomed!

The  Kane County Health Department is working to assess and assure mental  health services for the residents of Kane County. Access to mental  health services is one of the 5 priorities under Kane County’s IPLAN  (Illinois Project for Local Assessment of Needs).
